With nearly 40 years of experience as an attorney, Rowlands, LeBrou & Griesmer, PLLC partner Richard Rowlands (“Rick”) brings extensive legal knowledge to your personal situation. Rick has provided legal assistance to numerous individuals and businesses in the area during his career in areas such as estate planning, business succession planning, elder law, estate and trust administration (including estate litigation), veterans benefits, real estate and business law. He has handled legal matters from simple wills and real estate transactions to highly sophisticated estate plans, contested guardianships and business arrangements. His estate litigation experience extends to contested wills, contested accountings, removal of executors and trustees and cases involving abuse of powers of attorney.

Rick has strong ties to the Capital Region and is very involved with several area organizations. For many years, he has served or is serving as counsel for the New York State Independent Living Council, Colonie Senior Services Centers, Inc., the Association of Area Agencies on Aging and the Italian American Heritage Foundation. Rick also serves on the board of directors for St. Peter’s Health Partners, the Visiting Nurses Association of Albany, the Visiting Nurses Association Foundation and the Visiting Nurses Association of Albany Home Care Corporation. His professional affiliations include the Estate Planning Council of Eastern New York, the Capital District Trial Lawyers Association and the American, New York State (Trusts & Estates and Elder Law sections) and Albany County Bar Associations.

Rick is a frequent speaker on topics relating to estate planning and elder law issues. He authored Chapter 18 on “Retirement and Estate Planning” and is a contributing editor of Drafting New York Wills (Matthew Bender).

Rick received his J.D. from Albany Law School, where he was granted membership in the prestigious Justinian Society, and is a graduate of the University of Rochester. He is a retired Brigadier General on the New York State Retired List, a graduate of the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power School and Submarine School, as well as the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College. He is also an accredited Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) attorney.

Rick lives in Latham with his wife Sherry.
